Above the Pit & Pendulum

Aided and abetted by my delightful Girlfriend, I managed to wangle being let up into the unused floors above the Pit in town, which has an old bar above it, along with another two floors of abandoned workshop spaces. Not sure when the bar was lat used, i don't remember it ever being there, so probably 80's at the latest.

The Stairs up from the side door, this was originally a fire escape, and not used as the main entrance.

The Air ducting for the pub below, snaking all over the old upstairs bar.

The view from behind the bar

I think time was called a *very* long time ago!

The Green Jones Showband? One of a bunch of old abandoned records up there, all equally odd.

View of the bar area, now full of junk from the pub downstairs.

Dust, anybody?

Behind the bar, now sadly lacking in alcohol.

View of the bar, showing the incredibly well placed air ducting, meaning this place can never be used as a pub again...

Another view of the same.

And again, right through the length of the pub.

Showing the size of the main bar area.

Along the bar.

The stairs up to the second floor.

Old rubbish on the stairs.

One of the decaying workshop rooms on the second floor.

Another view of the same, showing the huge windows.

The Toilets for the first floor bar were on this floor.

Urinals. Even though they've not been cleaned or used in two decades, they're still cleaner than the ones in use in the pub! ;)

Another ancient, and waterless toilet.

And, one of the ladies loos...

Moi.

The corridor leading to the toilets

Abandoned Chair.

The other main workshop room on the second floor, showing the fire escape into the lightwell, and the lift.

Another view of the same room.

Years of dirt and grime on the windows.

As well as a lift for people, there was also a trapdoor for a winch system running from the ground floor all the way to the top of the building.

The trapdoor above, heading up to the third floor.

Cobwebs on the stairs up to the third floor.

A huge open area, once used as a metalworks of some type.

Another view.

Strange, small half-sized door, leading to a tiny room.

view from inside, showing the door.

The view from the window in the small room, showing some strange bridges in the buildings down the hill.

Interesting decay.

The other room on the third floor

The Roof, in remarkably good condition. I'm guessing this was refurbished in the not too distant past.

Stencilling on the walls, showing storage space for different sized barrow bottoms, apparently!

A view across the road, into the abandoned casino...

a zoom into the casino, showing it to be full of old furniture and paperwork..

Heading back downstairs.

Saw this on the stairwell, and thought it looked like a witch!

Imteresting decay on the walls.
